"Hello World!" or "The Purpose of Fear"
Hello World! Welcome again to my first blog! Please enjoy and do not hesitate to comment!
There is a certain amount of fear in the air, currently saturating us. It heightens the cautiousness in our minds and often clouds are judgment allowing for us to make inscrutably bad decisions. When we are afraid, we are not thinking clearly. We often narrow our focus on our surroundings to a point where the peripheral enlarges and hides truths. Why does this happen? Is it a purely chemical creation, or is it something much more primal, hearkening back to fight or flight? Surely there is a better method of persuasion, if that is their aim (ever hear of honesty? oh wait, we were alluding to politicians. nevermind). Heightening tension in the masses serves the purposes of manipulation solely. What need is there to get nations to act against their own will? I am not talking about giving up a small amount of liberty to live in a community, or raise a family (example: stop smoking because your kid has asthma, not lighting fires in your back yard because it might piss off your neighbors, that sort of thing). This is also not tied to a party, or nation, or ideology, but across the board with those in power. How can they claim to have our best interest in mind? I am not sure if my thoughts on this are complete yet or not (or if they could ever be considering the flowing changing nature of all things) but it is the closest I have come so far on the subject.

I agree their is a lot of fear-mongering. It worked brilliantly after September 11 - Patriot Act, Homeland Security Act, Afghanistan, Iraq. I think you're right that it cuts across party and ideology, but I can't help noticing that it's more extreme on the right. And it's not just fear-mongering, but a general emotional manipulation. Take note of those politicians who refuse to engage on issues, but rather, insist on using emotional appeals and the vaguest of language. But FEAR is the place where we are most willing to give up all.

I thought about it just after I posted about the right using fear and manipulation to control or sway people. This machiavellian bent isn't just politics though, it is steeped in corporate life as well. Albeit they do it in a more subtle way, it can be just as sinister. The threat of being erased is the buisness method.

Dude, I totally wrote out this long-ass thing that had basically nothing to do with fear. Then I found out that I had to have an account and it got deleted. In lieu of retyping something similar I leave you with this:
